As founder of the Itaewon Pool League Bob Denny provided the opportunity for hundreds of players in thousands of matches to enjoy the game of pool. Bob was an active member of the league from 2001 until 2009, when he left Korea to return back to the United States.

Bob Denny, was born in Kentucky in 1953 and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. Bob was drafted in the army and served in Vietnam as a tanker from 1970 to 1972. Upon discharge from the Army Bob went on to a career in government service where he served over 20 years at numerous locations to include Spain, Japan, and Korea.

Bob was stationed in Korea for over 12 years and was a friend to all. He was one of the kindest men you could meet and the first to buy a drink for a stranger. His selflessness was demonstrated regularly by the numerous charitable events in which he participated and the kindness he showed to all. Most memorable was his Thanksgiving dinners in which he would invite single folks without family in Korea to his home for Thanksgiving dinner, and his pig roasts and other hosted events in which all were welcome.

Bob was also a sportsman and enjoyed fishing and golf, and at the age of 57, Bob was the starting third basemen for one of the army base’s best softball teams. Bob also founded the Itaewon Pool League where we worked tirelessly to promote friendship and camaraderie amongst the expat and Korean community in Seoul.

Bob left this world too early but those of us that knew him feel blessed and honored to know such a fine man…he will be very much missed!

Bob Denny passed away in the morning of August 26, 2010, in Florida, USA. Our thoughts are with his family. As founder of the Itaewon Pool League Bob provided the opportunity for hundreds of players in thousands of matches to enjoy the game of pool. Each and everyone of us can be thankful for what Bob has shared with us. He will be missed by all that knew him.
