2. Score sheets

1.      Score sheets must be filled out and dropped at Dolce Vita, even if all the captains entered the scores on the website.

2.      Score sheets must contain the full names of new or migrated players in the top left section of the sheet.

3.      Note that player migration is different for players who did not play in the league since January 2010. If captains migrate players, they should always select migration from seasons since 2010 first, which is the default. If the player cannot be found, or the player is known to have played before 2010 the last time, then select “Search old database (2002-2009)”. This will pull player information from the old website’s database.

4.      Please help avoiding that players who have played in the league before are entered with the same name or a different name twice.

5.      After the scores were entered on the website by one of the captains, the captain of the other team should check the scores entered and complete unknown player names from the team.

6.      Captains are asked to help removing the many unknown players in the match data. Following games currently show unknown players:

3. Season Dates

Captains are reminded of the important dates for the season, which are also displayed on the front page of our website.

The new season “Summer / Fall 2011” will start with the organizational meeting June 29, first match of the new season July 6.

4. Review blind draw doubles tournament

We had 34 players participating in the tournament. It is the first season that we increased the number of money tournaments from 2 to 3, and the first time we tried a blind draw tournament.

Feedback from players participating was very positive. The scotch doubles format prompted many discussions between the players who, in most cases, played together for the first time. The ambiance was good, and many of the participating players were watching before or after their own game. Most stayed to watch the finals.

5. Feedback and questions from the league

6.1. Time-outs

A proposal was brought in to eliminate the time-outs, as they take too much time and extend the match duration. Alternative proposal to eliminate the captains' time-outs and only allow players to call. Majority vote: keep the time-out rule as it is.

6.2. Rules available in bars

Proposed to have a set of rules printed out in every bar. Add a more formal technical time-out which is called if rule debates occur. During this, the referee is obliged to check whether his ruling is consistent with the text of rules.

The president to email all captains to establish a printed copy of the IPL rules in their home bar.

6.3. Coin toss vs. lagging

Proposal to replace the coint toss with lagging, e.g. each player would shoot a ball from behind the head string to the opposite rail and back, and determine the breaker from who wins the lag.

Due to the time needed to do the lag, which is before racking the balls, and the possible debates about the quality of the rack afterwards, the proposal was taken back.

The league will continue to use a coin toss to determine the breaker.

6.4. "8 off the break"

Proposal to re-introduce the “8 off the break” game win, and the respective pin.

As we follow WPA- and BCA-rules, making the 8 ball off the break is not a game win, and 8 ball off the break while committing a foul is not a game loss.

Even if 8 ball off the break does not win the game, a pin could be given out. As the 8 ball is spotted after an 8 ball off the break, the same or the other player will occasionally win the game, which makes it difficult to determine who wins the pin.

Typically, there are about 100 8 ball runs and 20-30 break and runs in one season, which consists of more than 4000 games.

Conclusion was not to change the rules, nor to re-introduce the pin.

(WPA – World Pool-Billiard Association, BCA – Billiard Congress of America)

6.5. Tournament bar selection

The league officials try to allocate tournaments to all bars participating in the league, with an even distribution. Although not all bars have the same quality of tables and environment, they all support our league by allowing to play in their venue.

Not all bars qualify as tournament venue. Reasons are location (e.g. Phillie’s which is too far away from all other bars), the bar owners do not want to host a tournament, do not open early enough, or have been unreliable in the past.

Bars which are unreliable (e.g. which commit to the tournament but cancel last minute, or do not open as agreed) are not only a burden to the league officials, but also a hassle to all participating players. Such bars will not be considered as a qualifying tournament venue.

However, we welcome all bar owners to contact us, should they be interested to host a tournament or other league events, and will reset their qualification status.

6.6. Songtan Pool League

Proposal to have a friendly match against members of the Songtan pool league. Will be posted on the website as soon as the date has been clarified.

Meeting closed at 7.10pm.
