On Wednesday Jan 10th 2024 we met at Dolce Vita to set up the new season. 11 teams registered and there is hope that we will have one more team before matches start.

The evening began with mingling, small talk,  New Year greetings, and some promises of vengeance for past defeats.

Our esteemed President opened proceedings and informed the captains that there will be no matches on April 10th and it can be used for make up matches. May 15th is also a holiday but it is undecided if there will be matches on this date.

The captains were then reminded about the rules for slow play, shot clock, and timeouts. They were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the rules and to use them as necessary.

There were also questions about double-hit/push shots and frozen balls. Again the captains were encouraged to review all the rules and to also ensure players who referee the games are also familiar with them.

The captains then voted on whether or not to scrap personal rating points for doubles tournaments. The resolution was defeated by 7 votes to 3 and so there will be no change.

There was a discussion about creating a 5th executive committe position. This member would be in charge of IT and social media. Andrew and Ben agreed to discuss the issue further and report back at a later date.

The meeting was thus concluded in an atmosphere of cooperation, fraternity, and bonhomie.

10 teams attended the meeting with King Pub Timeout and JR Pub Black Hole unable to send a representative. Thank you kindly to Dolce Vita for hosting.

The president welcomed the captains and reminded them of their responsibilities, which are being met spectacularly.

There were a couple of important issues discussed: teams reserving places for the banquet, and dropping personal rating points for doubles tournaments.

  1. The Banquet: Last season we overpaid the banquet by 666,000 won as only 67 players turned up. This season the Executive Committee would like teams to reserve their places at least a week in advance. Each captain should let the president know how many players from their team will attend the banquet. The captains voted to implement this measure and to reduce the guest payment to 25,000 won. Captains were also reminded that it’s not permitted for non-league members to take the place of a player who isn’t attending the banquet.
  2. Doubles Tournaments: There was a discussion about the possibility of not using personal ranking points for doubles tournaments. It was suggested that high ranked players were reluctant to play in doubles tournaments for fear of losing points. It was also made known that some lower ranked players don’t want to play for fear of letting the higher ranked players down. It was decided that each captain would canvas their team for the players’ opinion and the issue will be voted on at the organizational meeting next season.

The meeting ended in a peaceable fashion and everyone slunk off into the night, each person reflecting on their life choices which had taken them to this point.
